In Brief:

Following a report from CEO Doug McMillion, Walmart has announced the upcoming closure of its last two remaining liberal-run Portland, Oregon stores. McMillion cited historically high crime as the reason.

The Background:

Back in 2020, the rallying cry around Portland, Oregon was “Defund the Police!” Has it improved the city? Let's see.

Liberal and woke-as-they-come Starbucks closed up shop and moved out of Portland, citing high crimes, theft, and the safety of their staff as reasons for permanently closing stores.

Last month, Nike requested official permission to post a police officer outside one of their Portland stores, hoping to quell the flood of shoplifting. Another Nike location has remained mostly closed for months following too many incidents of theft.

Back in December, Walmart CEO Doug McMillion told CNBC: “Theft is an issue. It’s higher than what it has historically been. I think local law enforcement being staffed and being a good partner is part of that equation. … If that’s not corrected over time, prices will be higher, and/or stores will close.”

And as of March 24th, 2023, Portland will have no Walmart stores as the remaining two close.

Jeremy Girard of the Oregon Retail Crime Association has stated some stores are losing as much as $5 million yearly in theft.

So, for the 600+ Walmart employees losing their jobs, thank you, woke-ism. You have cost 600+ families their livelihood.

Notable Quotes:

“We’re having big retailers leave. I mean, to have Walmart close two of its stores is a really big deal. The people in those neighborhoods, that’s where they shop.” – Jordan Zaitz, Portland Police’s Neighborhood Response Team.
