In Brief:

US Representative Majorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) was permanently banned from Twitter last week after posting about COVID-19. A Twitter spokesperson said that Greene violated the social media platform’s COVID-19 misinformation policy on multiple occasions. Greene has been temporarily banned from the site in the past, but this time the company said her personal account will never come back.

The Background:

Twitter permanently banned sitting President Donald J. Trump in January of last year.

This January, they banned another high-profile Republican Majorie Taylor Greene of Georgia for violating their COVID-19 misinformation policy.

In a long January 1st post, Greene compared American life before and after the pandemic, said ivermectin was a safe treatment according to studies, and said masks were harmful to children.

That post, after multiple past temporary bans, got her banned from the platform for good.

In response, Greene said this on her GETTR account: "That’s fine, I’ll show America we don’t need them and it’s time to defeat our enemies.”

Trump made a statement about Greene’s ban, saying, "Marjorie Taylor Greene has a huge constituency of honest, patriotic, hard-working people. They don't deserve what's happened to them on places like low-life Twitter and Facebook.”

Notable Quotes:

“Twitter is a disgrace to democracy. They shouldn’t be allowed to do business in this Country.” - Donald Trump
