In Brief:
Biden sprung a surprise visit to Ukraine week while his very own people still wait for assistance and a visit from their leader. And his people are not thrilled.
The Background:
The mayor of East Palestine, Ohio is calling Biden’s visit to Ukraine the “biggest slap in the face.”
He continued, “giving millions of dollars away to people over there, and not to us tells you right now he doesn’t care about us.”
This is a steep comparison to Donald Trump showing up on the ground with the people who are hurting. Trump has also donated thousands of gallons of cleaning supplies and more than a dozen pallets of his namesake "Trump Spring Water" to the community.
He also met with members of the community and local officials.
"You are not forgotten. We stand with you. We pray for you. And we will stand with you and your fight to help ensure the accountability that you deserve," Trump told the crowd of local leaders, first responders and media gathered at a fire station in the town.
Notable Quotes:
“That tells you right now he doesn’t care about us. So, he can send every agency he wants to, but I found that out this morning in one of the briefings that he was in…Ukraine giving millions of dollars away to people over there, and not to us, and I’m furious.” – Mayor Trent
"The community has shown the tough and resilient heart of America. And that's what it is. This is really America right here. We're standing in America." – Donald Trump
