A group of American Mormons was brutally murdered by a Mexican drug cartel, and President Trump has declared “war” on the “monsters.”
“Officials say at least six children and three women, apparently all U.S. citizens living in a community of Americans in Mexico, were gunned down after their convoy came under fire during a daylight ambush Monday,” Fox News reports. “Those attacked were members of the LeBaron family, a well-known American clan who has lived in the community in the northern part of the country for decades, according to The New York Times. The attack targeted citizens who live in a community founded as part of an offshoot of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”
The victims of the murderous drug cartel were reportedly massacred while they fixed a flat tire on a dirt road.
“Mexico's top security official Alfonso Durazo has blamed cartel gunmen for the gruesome attack and said they may have mistaken the group's large SUVs for rival gangs,” reports The Daily Mail.
According to the Mail: “Gunmen opened fire and torched her vehicle causing the gas tank to explode. She was killed along with her twin six-month-old babies, Titus and Tiana, her 10-year-old daughter Krystal and 12-year-old son Howard. A video posted on social media showed the charred and smoking remains of her vehicle riddled with bullet holes.”
Trump responded to the horrific event on Twitter, writing:
A wonderful family and friends from Utah got caught between two vicious drug cartels, who were shooting at each other, with the result being many great American people killed, including young children, and some missing. If Mexico needs or requests help in cleaning out these.....— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 5, 2019
Why It Matters:
Trump made securing the U.S. border with Mexico a key element of his presidential campaign and of his administration, and this tragic story may help to accomplish his goals.
“If Mexico needs or requests help in cleaning out these monsters, the United States stands ready, willing & able to get involved and do the job quickly and effectively.”
