On Sunday, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser voiced her frustrations with illegal aliens being bussed into D.C. She stated that illegals were being “tricked” into getting on the buses, causing issues with the already crowded homeless shelters.
Back in April, Texas Governor Greg Abbott launched chartered buses to send recently arrived migrants from the southern border to Washington.
He announced the initiative after the Biden administration said it would halt Title 42, the pandemic-era immigration policy that allows authorities to turn away migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border.
Arizona’s Governor Doug Ducey, followed Abbott’s lead and in May started busing migrants to the nation’s capital. Three months into the program, local officials said more than 3,400 people have reached Washington by bus.
Fox News reached out to Mayor Bowser, asking her to point to the person or persons she was referring to when she said “they” were tricking the illegals onto buses. However, Bowser is now being cagey and refusing to answer.
Bowser also refused to answer when asked if the strain on her city has changed her perspective on the southern border and its ongoing crisis.
This comes shortly after the U.S. Customs and Border Protection released its June monthly report, revealing over 200,000 border crossings. That included a record number of terrorist sightings as well as over 15,000 unaccompanied children according to the report.
"Local taxpayers are not picking up the tab. They should not pick up the tab. We really need a coordinated federal response. We know that it’s done for refugees who come to the states from all points of the world and the same has to be done in the situation." — Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser
