A shopping mall Santa Claus made a little boy after he asked for a Nerf gun for Christmas in a video that has since gone viral. The man dressed as Santa shamed the child for his request, adamantly telling the boy that there were many other toys and that he would not let him have a toy gun. The mall has since reached out to the family and apologized.
A mother posted a video on Facebook this week, sharing an awkward moment where her little boy asked a man dressed as Santa in a Chicago shopping mall for a nerf gun, and he refused. The boy looked confused, and the man replied that there were “lots of other toys,” and that his dad could buy him a toy gun but Santa Claus would not bring one for him.
The mother expressed her shock at the man’s statements, and began a social media discussion on the politicization of something as innocent as children asking for gifts from Santa Claus. The mother of the little boy shared that she had to tell her son that it wasn’t Santa, but instead was one of Santa’s helpers that was confused.
According to The Hill, the shopping mall later reached out to the family and brought the little boy a Nerf gun to make amends, and apologized for the actions of their employee.
"My poor baby. This was the first year Michael was excited to go see Santa. It was supposed to be magical but instead I had to watch my sweet little boy fight back tears because Santa told him No because of his own personal beliefs.” - Sabella DeCarlo
