House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy told Breitbart News that as Speaker of the House he would not allow Rep. Ilhan Omar to serve on the Foreign Affairs committee or Reps. Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell to serve on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. He said that Nancy Pelosi has set a precedent that the majority party can tell the minority who can be placed on committees. With some analysts predicting major Republican wins in the 2022 midterm elections, there is a good potential that McCarthy could get a chance to keep this promise.
Democrats in the House have set a precedent that the majority party can determine which minority party members can serve on House committees. This week Rep. Paul Gosar was censured by the House of Representatives and removed from his committee assignment because he tweeted a video of a photoshopped cartoon that depicted him killing Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and attacking President Joe Biden.
Last February, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene was also kicked off of her committee assignment after controversial comments she made in her past were discovered.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said that he would do the same thing to Reps. Ilhan Omar, Eric Swalwell, and Adam Schiff.
McCarthy said that Rep. Swalwell should not be allowed on the Intel committee because he “cannot get a security clearance in the private sector.” As for Rep. Schiff, McCarthy cited his use of a fake dossier to fuel the Trump-Russia collusion impeachment in 2016.
Kevin McCarthy is one of the front runners to become the Speaker of the House if Republicans take back the House of Representatives in November 2022.
“If Eric Swalwell cannot get a security clearance in the private sector, there is no reason why he should be given one to be on Intel or Homeland Security. He will not be serving there.” - Rep. Kevin McCarthy
"[McCarthy]'s targeting me and he's targeting Schiff and he's targeting Ms. Omar because we're effective. Not for any other reason.” - Rep. Eric Swalwell
