In Brief:
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has been the center of one controversy after another since her election. Now, she is finally getting her comeuppance for numerous disparaging remarks and cover-up lies.
The Background:
Since entering the national spotlight after her election to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2019, Ilham Omar has been fraught with allegations of lies, racism, adultery, and home-wrecking.
Omar, a Somali-American, is one of two Muslim women currently serving in the House and has faced backlash again and again for anti-semitic speech and ideology.
She is now drawing heat for denying that she knew she was perpetuating racism, claiming she was ignorant of the “tropes about Jews and money.” However, this denial is hard to swallow given an earlier comment when she once compared Israel to terrorist organizations like Hamas and the Taliban, and said the relationship between the Jewish state and the United States is “all about the Benjamins.”
And in yet another now-deleted tweet from 2012, Omar said, "Israel has hypnotized the world. May Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel."
Notable Quotes:
“Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar claims on CNN that she was ‘not aware that the word “hypnotized” was a trope’ and ’ wasn’t aware of the fact that there are tropes about Jews and money.’ Give me a break. That’s BS.” – Steve Guest, advisor to Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX)
“Ilhan Omar definitely learned a LOT about antisemitic tropes … Omar discovered that if she focuses on ‘Israel’ and ‘Zionists’ instead of ‘Jews’ she can promote the same blood libels and get away with it without looking like an overt neo-Nazi à la Kanye,” – Dov Hikind via Twitter
