Rand Paul on Impeachment: Chuck Schumer Incited Violence

In Brief: 

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) called out Democrats for hypocrisy in their charges against Donald Trump, citing Senator Chuck Schumer’s threats last year toward Supreme Court justices and his call for action. Schumer’s words were condemned by conservatives last year, but have been forgotten in the months since. According to Paul, it’s because of the hypocrisy from the left. 

The Background:

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) joined Fox News Sunday this week, and stated that the grounds for impeaching Trump show a double standard by Democrats. Paul reminded viewers of then-Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s call for action to get vengeance on Justices Kavanaugh and Gorsuch if they ruled against abortion. 

Schumer’s words, in March 2020, were,  “I want to tell you, Gorsuch, I want to tell you, Kavanaugh, you have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price. You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions.” Following the threatening statements, Chief Justice John Roberts released a statement condemning Schumer’s words and saying that they were “inappropriate” and “dangerous.” 

Sen. Paul stated on Sunday that the Democrats’ failure to apply equal standards to language from the left showed that their treatment of Trump was a “partisan farce.”
