Psaki's Replacement Announced

  • Executive

In Brief:
On Thursday, President Biden announced that Karine Jean-Pierre will take Jen Psaki’s place as the White House Press Secretary when Psaki leaves the administration in May. Karine Jean-Pierre is currently the deputy press secretary to Psaki. Left-wing commentators are hailing it as a progressive win because Jean-Pierre will be the first Black woman and openly homosexual person to fill the position. Psaki is allegedly leaving the administration for a job at MSNBC.

The Background:
Jen Psaki has had her time as Biden’s press secretary. She has been known for sparring with Fox News’ Peter Doocy on multiple occasions.

Now, she’s leaving the administration and is expected to join MSNBC to host a show on their streaming service.

Her replacement is current deputy secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. Jean-Pierre is the former chief-of-staff to now-Vice President Kamala Harris when she was running for president in 2020. Before that, Jean-Pierre worked in the Obama administration and on Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign.

"Karine not only brings the experience, talent and integrity needed for this difficult job, but she will continue to lead the way in communicating about the work of the Biden-Harris Administration on behalf of the American people," Biden said in a statement.

Psaki’s potential position at MSNBC is not unusual for a White House Press Secretary. The practice is common. Trump’s former press secretary Kayleigh McEnany joined Fox News as a commentator last year.

Notable Quotes:

"Representation matters and she [Karine Jean-Pierre] will give a voice to many, but also make many dream big about what is truly possible." - Jen Psaki
