Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis caused quite the uproar when he sent a plane of illegal immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard, the haven of the wealthy liberal left.
Yet, despite claims from the left that they support immigrants and want open borders, the Martha’s Vineyard community was quick to take action.
Last week, Gov. DeSantis sent 50 illegal immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard via plane. Two days after arriving, all 50 were loaded onto buses to be transported off of Martha’s Vineyard to military housing on the Cape Cod mainland.
Democrat officials and wealthy liberals, such as those who populate Martha’s Vineyard, have been roundly criticized for their hypocrisy in supporting open border policies while not welcoming migrants. According to Fox News, Martha’s Vineyard, voted overwhelmingly for President Biden in the 2020 election by a margin of 77.7%
CNN likened DeSantis sending migrants to Martha’s Vineyard to the Holocaust and called it “inhumane.” DeSantis replied, “What’s not humane, is what Biden is doing, he’s given a false promise, the border’s open, luring people to come here for political purposes, and then basically cutting these people loose and leaving them high and dry.”
The 50 migrants sent to Martha's Vineyard represent less than one-tenth of 1% of the nearly 5 million illegal immigrants believed to have crossed the southern border since President Biden took office in January 2021.
President Joe Biden angrily declared Thursday, “Republicans are playing politics with human beings, using them as props.”
Then, Bill Maher mockingly stated, “The migrants, first, they went to Martha’s Vineyard, and then they — today, they sent them to Cape Cod. Just throw in a stop in Nantucket, and it’s the same cruise I got my parents a few years back.”
DeSantis and fellow GOP governors Greg Abbott of Texas, and Doug Ducey of Arizona, have sent thousands of illegal immigrants to blue states and so-called “sanctuary cities” including New York, Chicago, and Washington.
"States like Massachusetts, New York and California will better facilitate the care of these individuals who they have invited into our country by incentivizing illegal immigration through their designation as ‘sanctuary states’ and support for the Biden administration’s open border policies." – DeSantis spokesperson Taryn Fenske
