The Texas Democrats that fled the state to disrupt the democratic process took COVID19 with them. At least three members tested positive last weekend. While infected, they met with at least one high-ranking White House official, Vice President Kamala Harris. Though her spokesperson announced that she did not come in close contact with the legislators, Harris visited the Walter Reed Medical Center on Sunday.
According to the Vice President’s staff, Kamala Harris does not have COVID19 and does not need to be quarantined, because she didn’t directly interact with the infected Democrats.
Her unannounced visit to the hospital on Sunday has made some question that conclusion. The White House is claiming that it was merely a ‘routine’ visit.
The three Texas legislators who tested positive reportedly met with several top Democrats, including Senator Chuck Schumer, Senator Elizabeth Warren, and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. Only two of the legislators met with the Vice President, and none of the legislators met with President Biden.
According to the CDC, those who have been around infected people but are vaccinated and showing no symptoms do not need to quarantine themselves.
The White House stated that Harris tested negative for COVID19 on Monday before the “routine” Sunday medical visit.
"Based on the timeline of these positive tests, it was determined the Vice President and her staff present at the meeting were not at risk of exposure because they were not in close contact with those who tested positive and therefore do not need to be tested or quarantined." - Symone Sander, Harris spokesperson
