IRS Job Listing: "Deadly Force"?

  • Flyover Country

In Brief:

An online job posting from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) made the rounds online after someone screenshot the listing as having a requirement to “carry a firearm and be willing to use deadly force, if necessary.” The job listing has since been edited and no longer has the bullet point containing the controversial language.

The Background:

Conservatives have been talking for weeks about the Biden Administration’s choice to hire 87,000 new IRS agents.

Then, a job listing was posted that included various duties required of the new agents.  They included a “key requirement” that applicants be “legally allowed to carry a firearm,” and its “major duties,” including “carry a firearm and be willing to use deadly force, if necessary,” as well as “be willing and able to participate in arrests, execution of search warrants, and other dangerous assignments.”

The “deadly force” section has since been edited and removed.

Breitbart reported earlier this year that the IRS purchased over $700,000 worth of ammunition between March and June of 2022. Congresswoman Lauren Boebert (R-CO) tweeted: “...why do their agents need guns to do their job and who are the IRS arming their agents against?”

Notable Quotes:

“I guarantee you citizens in every one of our states, if you ask them, ‘What do they want?’ they don’t want 87,000 new IRS agents. And they’re not being created to audit billionaires or giant corporations. They’re being created to audit you.”  – Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX)
