House Stalls on Impeachment Proceedings

  • Executive

By: Nate James

In Brief:

The U.S. House of Representatives voted to impeach President Trump, but has now announced it will wait “as long as it takes” to proceed, because they don’t trust the trial will be fair.

The Background:

Democrats have been trying to obstruct President Trump’s administration since the day he took office. Their latest ploy has resulted in the House – which is controlled by the Democrats – voting to impeach Trump for alleged abuse of power and obstruction of justice.

Yet now, DNYUZ reports, “The future of the House’s impeachment case against President Trump hung in doubt on Thursday, after the third-ranking House Democrat raised the possibility that the chamber could permanently withhold the articles from the Senate if it did not get assurances of a fair trial.

“…Speaker Nancy Pelosi threw the matter into doubt by telling reporters shortly after passage of the articles of impeachment that she might wait to transmit them to the Senate until she could determine whether the trial would be fair.”

Why It Matters:

The Democrats have been dragging this witch-hunt out for months, likely souring voters to their cause and frustrating even their faithful with the charade.

Notable Quotes:

“Until we can get some assurances from the majority leader that he is going to allow for a fair and impartial and trial to take place, we would be crazy to walk in there knowing he has set up a kangaroo court.”
