Legislation will be introduced next week to place a twelve-year limit on the position of the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Anthony Fauci’s current official position in the U.S. Government. The bill is entitled Fauci's Incompetence Requires Early Dismissal (FIRED) Act. If passed, it would create a term limit and force Dr. Fauci to end his time in his current role - a position he has held since 1984. The bill is unlikely to pass, but shows an increasing frustration among the American people regarding the control Dr. Fauci has been allowed to have for nearly three decades.
House Republicans are planning to introduce a bill next week that would place a twelve-year term limit on the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). The FIRED Act (appropriately named, the Fauci’s Incompetence Requires Early Dismissal Act) would effectively boot Dr. Anthony Fauci out of office due to his nearly three decades in the position. Fauci has been in the role of director since 1984.
“Few people have earned their termination more visibly,” stated the bill’s main sponsor, Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH). Other sponsors include Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), and Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC).
The bill is unlikely to pass, due to a Democrat-controlled legislature, but proves the increasing frustration from conservatives and moderates regarding the handling of COVID19. Dr. Fauci is the highest paid government employee, and has given conflicting advice throughout the pandemic.
The bill states, "In the wake of massive missteps by Dr. Fauci and his subordinates in the handling of the coronavirus pandemic, this bill addresses an oft-overlooked issue: The lack of accountability for unelected bureaucrats. Under Dr. Fauci's guidance, Americans have lost confidence in the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control, leading to confusion and serious government overreach that has threatened Americans' livelihoods and freedoms. Despite successful treatment therapies, a historic vaccination development, and decreasing cases, Dr. Fauci has continued to advise healthy, low-risk Americans to continue to act as if the pandemic were out of control — after overseeing nearly a year of draconian public health policies that have decimated the U.S. economy.”
"I used to have the utmost respect for the guidance from the CDC. I always considered the CDC to be the gold standard. I don’t anymore. The conflicting, confusing guidance from your agency has undermined public confidence and contradicts the scientific guidance of many experts." - Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine)
“The fact that Fauci was ever paid with tax-payer money is an embarrassment to the United States of America. We should #FireFauci.” - Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY)
