Ghislaine Maxwell is on trial for luring and grooming underage girls for sex with her years-long companion Jeffery Epstein, a convicted pedophile. The trial is taking place in a Manhattan federal courtroom. Maxwell, the daughter of the late media mogul Robert Maxwell, has pleaded guilty to all six counts. Epstein and Maxwell have been accused of raping multiple underage girls.
The trial of Ghislaine Maxwell began last week in a New York federal courtroom.
Maxwell has been accused of underage sex trafficking alongside her former companion Jeffery Epstein during the 1990s, who died in prison under suspicious circumstances in 2019.
Many people believe the Maxwell trial will reveal the names of many high-profile business people, politicians, and media personalities.
And it already has revealed some. Bill Clinton, Donald Trump, Prince Andrew, late Sen. John Glenn and Sen. George Mitchell, actor Kevin Spacey, and comedian Chris Tucker were among those named during the trial as having flown on Epstein’s planes.
Maxwell’s defense has been trying to focus the case on the high-profile people that were involved with Epstein and keep the focus off of Maxwell herself. The defense is also pressing witnesses about how they could remember specific details from 20 years ago.
According to a former assistant US attorney Gene Rossi, the prosecution is expected to “underpromise yet over perform” at the trial to let the jurors come to their own conclusions rather than pushing hard for a result.
“The charges themselves speak volumes. Anytime you have underage sex trafficking, that charge alone inflames passions and biases of any jury.” - Gene Rossi, former assistant US attorney
