Despite the frequent calls to ban firearms, especially the AR-15, statistics taken from the FBI show that rifles account for a very small proportion of weapons used in mass shootings. According to the stats from the FBI, knives and fists accounted for more homicides than rifles.
According to the Daily Caller, knives account for more homicides per year than rifles, despite the nation-wide call from leftists to ban the AR-15 and other firearms.
According to the data provided in the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Homicide Table from 2015-2019, in 2019, rifles accounted for 364 of homicides, while knives were the weapon used in 1,476. Other “weapons,” specified as “hands, feet, fists, etc.,” accounted for 600 homicides, almost twice as many as rifles.
Despite the data given by the FBI, mass shootings often result in increased effort to ban the AR-15 and similar firearms.
“I’m the only one who’s ever gotten it passed, man. Everyone keeps wondering whether I care about dealing with rational gun control — the only gun control legislation [1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban] ever passed is mine. It’s gonna happen again.” - President Joe Biden, March 28, 2021
