On Thursday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed anti-vaccine mandate bills into law in the town of Brandon, FL. The town name is an allusion to the popular saying “Let’s go, Brandon,” which is a stand-in for “F— Joe Biden.” The laws provide protection for nurses, firefighters, police officers, and other workers who have been threatened with termination if they don’t receive the experimental COVID-19 vaccine.
Governor Ron DeSantis has quickly become Joe Biden’s biggest annoyance. The Republican governor is resisting Joe Biden directly where his administration wanted to make the most impact: COVID-19 policy.
DeSantis has blocked school boards from mandating masks and repeatedly called out the President for violating Floridians’ rights.
Just on Thursday, the governor signed a bevy of bills restricting a business’ ability to mandate the COVID-19 on their employees.
And he did it in Brandon, FL to troll the president. The popular phrase “Let’s go, Brandon” has become a veiled reference to “F— Joe Biden.”
One reporter asked the governor, “Why is it okay for you to violate the conservative tenet of home rule but it’s bad when the Biden administration [does it]?”
DeSantis responded by saying that “the states are the primary vehicles to protect people’s freedoms; their health, their safety, their welfare, and our Constitutional system. What Biden is doing is not constitutional.”
DeSantis continues to gain a following among conservatives in Florida and across the country for his willingness to go toe-to-toe with President Biden.
“Now, some people say, ‘Hey, these local governments wanted to lock down businesses. They wanted to force mandates; they wanted to keep the kids locked out of school.’ Yeah, you’re damn right I overruled them on that, because they were wrong.” - Gov. Ron DeSantis
