In Brief:
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is taking action against woke prosecutors who put themselves above the law, starting with the suspension of State Attorney Andrew Warren.
The Background:
Breitbart reports that Warren’s office declined to charge an alleged gang member who shot one person and then fired into a home filled with women and children where the victim had fled. One of the women now lives in a motel because she fears returning to the house with the shooter still on the streets, and feels “as though her status as a victim doesn’t matter and the state attorney simply does not care.”
Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said the suspension of Warren is not political, but about “law and order.” He stated, “Over the last several years, State Attorney Warren has acted as an adjudicator of all as some type of supreme authority by reducing charges, dropping cases and single handedly determining what crimes will be legal or illegal in our county. Ask yourself, aren’t these the decisions for the courts or a jury of our peers?” He further accused Warren of acting as a “supreme authority” by “reducing charges, dropping cases and single handedly determining what crimes will be legal or illegal in our county,” a criticism DeSantis echoed Thursday.
Notable Quotes:
“Our government is a government of laws, not a government of men. When you’re saying you’re not going to enforce certain laws that you don’t like, that’s neglect of duty. That, quite frankly, is incompetence as defined in Florida law.” Gov Ron DeSantis (R-FL).
