DeSantis endorsed by Chip Roy for President

Texas Congressman Chip Roy called Florida Governor Ron DeSantis “a vibrant and energetic leader with the faith, vision, and courage to chart a new course.”

The Background:

Top House Republican Chip Roy (R-TX) has formally endorsed FL Gov. Ron DeSantis for President. 

“His style of no-nonsense government and fearless rejection of woke ‘conventional wisdom’ has demonstrated an appeal to all of us based on our shared values as Americans,” the statement said. “He strives to unite us again as one people under the banner of freedom and equal opportunity — with the courage to stand athwart the destructive divisiveness of identity politics or the temptation to pander.”

DeSantis has not formally declared his intention to run in 2024, but is expected to place a bid for the Republican nomination.

He recently rattled multiple GOP warhawks for his statement to Tucker Carlson, saying that the war in Ukraine was not vital to U.S. interests. 

"While the U.S. has many vital national interests… becoming further entangled in a territorial dispute between Ukraine and Russia is not one of them,” DeSantis said. 

Ken Cuccinelli, acting Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security under President Trump, has launched a PAC asking DeSantis to run.
