The border crisis in Texas has accelerated to the point that even Vice President Kamala Harris’ own party members want her to go to the border and investigate the crisis caused by the Biden administration. US Representative Henry Cueller (D-TX) sent the Vice President a letter pleading with her to come and address the issues in Texas, saying that it was critical that she meet with the people who have to deal with the border surge on a daily basis. Meanwhile,Governor Greg Abbott (R-TX) has invited former President Trump to visit the border and he has agreed, stating that he hopes to show Americans what is happening at the border under the Biden administration.
Two weeks ago, Vice President Kamala Harris visited Guatemala and Mexico to meet with leaders and address the “root causes” of illegal immigration. During her trip, she received intense criticism from Republicans and even hard questions from some of the mainstream media about why she had not been to the US border.
As Biden’s appointed “border manager,” many have argued that she should actually go see what is going on. And now, even one Texas Democrat is begging the Vice President to come south.
Texas Democratic Representative Henry Cueller wrote a letter urging Harris to come to the southern border along with other members of Congress. “The situation on the border will only worsen, as more migrants are expected to arrive. The Administration needs to take a proactive approach to create a sustainable system of humanitarian aid and relieve everyday Americans of that responsibility,” Cueller wrote.
This letter comes just as former President Trump announced he will visit the border at the end of this month at the invitation of Governor Greg Abbott. “...Biden and Harris won’t even tour the scenes of the wreckage they created, or come down and visit with the Border Patrol and ICE heroes risking their lives to defend our Nation at a time when the White House is doing everything it can to make their job totally impossible,” Trump stated. “What Biden and Harris have done, and are continuing to do on our border, is a grave and willful dereliction of duty.” The former President added that he hoped his visit would help people see what is truly happening at the border.
The Harris team has not released any response to Cueller’s letter or any plans to visit the southern border.
“I write to invite you to the U.S. Southern Border to observe the ongoing humanitarian crisis and share the perspective of Americans who live there. I encourage you to join me and other Members of Congress, while we visit with the people on the ground who deal with these issues every day.” - Henry Cueller (D), Representative of the 28th District of Texas
“The Biden Administration inherited from me the strongest, safest, and most secure border in U.S. history and in mere weeks they turned it into the single worst border crisis in U.S. history. It’s an unmitigated disaster zone.” - former President Donald Trump
