Democrat Congressman Schiff Falsifies Texts

In Brief:
On Monday night, during a hearing about the January 6th riots, Rep. Adam Schiff of California showed alleged screenshots of texts between former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows and an unnamed lawmaker. After careful examination by the Federalist, it was revealed that Schiff misrepresented the content of the text message and even the source. By erasing important portions of the message and adding punctuation, Schiff made the message indicate that a member of Congress was telling then-VP Mike Pence to throw out electoral votes from the 2020 election.

The Background:
Nearly a year later, Democrats are still pursuing an investigation into the riots that took place at the Capitol on January 6th.

During a hearing on Monday, Rep. Adam Schiff showed a text message his team had doctored to make it look like Rep. Jim Jordan was demanding that Vice President Mike Pence throw out electoral votes for the 2020 election.

The text message Schiff presented as from a lawmaker said, “On January 6, 2021, Vice President Mike Pence, as President of the Senate, should call out all electoral votes that he believes are unconstitutional as no electoral votes at all.”

In reality, the text was written by former DOD Inspector General Joseph Schmitz explaining that there is judicial precedent for Pence to throw out electoral votes that were gathered unconstitutionally. Rep. Jim Jordan then forwarded that message to White House chief of staff Mark Meadows.

But that sentence in the message actually said this: “On January 6, 2021, Vice President Mike Pence, as President of the Senate, should call out all the electoral votes that he believes are unconstitutional as no electoral votes at all — in accordance with guidance from founding father Alexander Hamilton and judicial precedence.”

Jordan was merely relaying to Meadows an attorney’s opinion about the situation.

Notable Quotes:

“Is anyone surprised that Adam Schiff is again rifling through private text messages and cherry-picking information to fit his partisan narrative and sow misinformation?” - Russell Dye, spokesman for Rep. Jim Jordan
