Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) stated that he will no longer accept contributions from corporate political action committees, and encouraged his colleagues to do the same. He stated that Republicans have been under the influence of “woke corporations,” and have allowed donations from major corporations to dictate how Republicans vote. Cruz urged his colleagues to join him in rejecting further contributions from corporate political action committees.
In a Wall Street op-ed, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) wrote that he will no longer accept donations from corporate political action committees. Although he accepted over $2 million in donations from corporations in the past, he stated that he was done accepting contributions from corporate PACS.
Cruz wrote, “For too long, woke CEOs have been fair-weather friends to the Republican Party: They like us until the left's digital pitchforks come out. Then they run away.... Enough is enough. Corporations that flagrantly misrepresent efforts to protect our elections need to be called out, singled out and cut off.”
In an interview with Fox, Sen. Cruz stated, “I'm fed up with it. I'm sick of it. I think a lot of Americans are sick of it. And so I announced this week as of this point, going forward, I will not accept any contributions from corporate PACs, not a penny. If they're going to behave as enemies of the American people, enemies of liberty, if they're going to engage in lies and willingly be weaponized as economic tools of punishment for the Democratic Party and the radicals who are doing enormous damage to the country, then I want nothing to do with that endeavor.“
Cruz is one of several Republicans who have recently stated that they will reject any donations from corporations.
Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) led a similar effort in the House of Representatives last week, stating that it was an “important effort to refuse campaign donations from Big Tech companies that act anti-competitively and censor conservatives.” Buck led a group of seven Republicans on the House anti-trust panel who signed a pledge to reject donations from corporations such as Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon, and Twitter. Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) stated that it was a move that “appears merely symbolic at the beginning, but sometimes great movements begin with small symbolic movements.”
“Starting today, I no longer accept money from any corporate PAC. I urge my GOP colleagues to do the same. For too long, Republicans have allowed the left & their big-business allies to attack our values & ship jobs overseas with no response. No more.” - Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), Twitter
“...The days of conservatives being taken for granted by the business community are over.” - Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL)
