"Covid is Over"

  • Executive, The Hill

By Ophelia Garrett

In Brief:

President Biden has said Covid is over. His statement leaves a lot of questions as to what “Covid Era” restrictions and changes will remain, and how the country will move forward. Will the jobs lost due to vax mandates be restored, and will school children be allowed to breathe freely?

The Background:

During an appearance on CBS' "60 Minutes," Biden claimed that, while “still a problem,” the Covid pandemic is over.

Last month, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention adjusted its Covid-19 guidance to urge the nation away from measures such as quarantines and social distancing and instead focus on reducing severe disease from Covid-19.

Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY)  asked,

“If ‘the pandemic is over’ as Biden says, then all of the President’s emergency powers predicated on a pandemic, all COVID vax mandates, the emergency powers of every governor, Emergency Use Authorizations, and the PREP act should all be voided tomorrow, right?”

Notable Quotes:

"The pandemic is over. We still have a problem with Covid. We're still doing a lot of work on it. It's -- but the pandemic is over." –President Joe Biden
