In Brief:

State Senator Anthony Bouchard has announced his intent to run against Rep. Liz Cheney in 2022. Bouchard announced his run after Cheney voted to impeach President Trump.  The Republican Party of Wyoming also voted to censure Rep. Cheney for her impeachment vote, stating that Cheney acted contrary to the will of her constituents, violating their trust.

The Background:

The Wyoming Republican Party has declared its formal disapproval of Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) after her decision to vote to impeach former President Donald Trump. According to the message from the Wyoming GOP, Cheney actively went against the will of her constituents by accusing Trump of inciting violence and choosing to vote for his impeachment. The Wyoming GOP has been flooded with emails and phone calls from constituents who are angry with the action of their state representative.  Around 70% of Wyoming voted to re-elect Trump, according to the GOP’s statement.

According to the Casper Star Tribune, State Senator Anthony Bouchard has placed a bid for Cheney’s place, hoping to win the seat in 2022. Bouchard, along with the Wyoming GOP, have declared that Cheney is siding with leftists who overlooked the widespread riots during the summer while blaming Trump for the Capitol riot. Cheney has insisted that she was acting in what was the best interest of her state, regardless of the wishes of her constituents.

Notable Quotes:

"Representative Cheney has violated the trust of her voters, failed to faithfully represent a very large majority of motivated Wyoming voters, and neglected her duty to represent the party and the will of the people who elected her to represent them.” - Wyoming GOP resolution

“... The president of the United States incited a mob to attack and interrupt the democratic process. And then, while the violence played out, the president refused to take steps to stop it. In my mind, those are absolutely high crimes and misdemeanors. There’s just simply no question. This was a vote that could not have anything to do with party or with politics.” - Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY)

“Wyoming taxpayers need a voice in Congress who will stand up to Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats, and not give them cover.” - Wyoming State Senator Anthony Bouchard (R-WY)
