Chinese authorities from multiple cities have made it clear that they will “hold accountable” those that refuse to get the COVID-19 vaccine. The exact punishment has not been announced though there have been reports of some residents having their “social credit score” impacted for not receiving a vaccine. The country has vaccinated 55% of its citizens with a stated goal of reaching herd immunity at 80%.
The Chinese government is no stranger to oppressing its citizens and strangling personal freedom.
Now, government officials in 12 cities have announced that the unvaccinated will be held accountable for future outbreaks.
There is some speculation that Chinese “personal credit score” systems could be used to punish people who are hesitant to get the vaccine. The scoring system has caused some people to lose the ability to purchase plane tickets, buy property, or take out a loan.
While the government has made exceptions for medical exemptions, they are creating a class divide between the vaccinated and unvaccinated.
Many local Chinese authorities have already banned the unvaccinated population from sending their children to school, public transportation, and even medical facilities.
As the Chinese government continues to ratchet down pressure on unvaccinated citizens, it will be scary to see what happens in the coming days.
