BREAKING NEWS: Elizabeth II Dies

Elizabeth II, longest reigning monarch in British history, has passed away.

Elizabeth  (April 21st, 1926–-September 8th, 2022) was born in Mayfair, London, as the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York (later King George VI and Queen Elizabeth).

When her father died in February 1952, Elizabeth—then 25 years old—became queen regnant of seven independent Commonwealth countries: the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan, and Ceylon (known today as Sri Lanka), as well as Head of the Commonwealth. Elizabeth reigned as a constitutional monarch. She was also head of the Church of England.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

Elizabeth II's successor is Charles, Prince of Wales. His official title as the new monarch is Charles III, King of the United Kingdom.

“Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was more than a monarch. She defined an era. In a world of constant change, she was a steadying presence and a source of comfort and pride for generations of Britons, including many who have never known their country without her. …The seven decades of her history-making reign bore witness to an age of unprecedented human advancement and the forward march of human dignity.” – President Joe Biden

“Queen Elizabeth's historic and remarkable reign left a tremendous legacy of peace and prosperity for Great Britain. Her leadership and enduring diplomacy secured and advanced alliances with the United States and countries around the world. However, she will always be remembered for her faithfulness to her country and her unwavering devotion to her fellow countrymen and women. Melania and I will always cherish our time together with the Queen, and never forget Her Majesty's generous friendship, great wisdom, and wonderful sense of humor. What a grand and beautiful lady she was—there was nobody like her! Our thoughts and prayers will remain with the great people of the United Kingdom as you honor her most meaningful life and exceptional service to the people.” – Former President Donald Trump.
