Biden Skips Traditional Santa Tracker After 2021 Embarrassment

In Brief:

Joe Biden has not been shy about his need for rest and vacation. Having spent more time away from the White House than any previous president, Biden has now abandoned a long-held and special Christmas Eve tradition in order to have his own dinner.

The Background:

In 1955, a local department store mistyped their special line to “Santa” which was part of their Christmas campaign. The number printed was a direct line to the Continental Air Defense Command (CONAD) Operations Center in Colorado Springs, CO. The officer answering the phone that night quickly realized he’d been mistaken for Santa and played along, eventually assigning an officer the task of taking the calls for the night. CONAD – now the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) – spends every December 24th as the official Santa Tracker.

Traditionally, the sitting president has participated in and helped with answering calls as a way to connect to children across America. However, this year our hard vacationing, I mean working, president closed all events to the press and decided to skip the tradition for an “Italian dinner and time with family.”

Many believe this is due to last year's moment when a father in the background can be heard shouting “Let’s Go Brandon!” during the call, prompting a clueless Biden to go along with his own prank, replying, “Let’s Go Brandon, I agree.” Instead, they left it to the First Lady to pose for a staged image claiming Santa was on schedule.

Notable Quotes:

“As our country gathers for the holidays, traditions may vary, but our shared American values — a belief in possibility, optimism, and unity — endure season after season.” – President and First Lady Biden.
