Presidential hopeful Joe Biden told Muslim-American voters that United States schools should emphasize Islamic faith studies along with other "confessional faiths." Biden added that Islam is one of the great religions and that Islamophobia is rampant in American culture, while asking for a mobilization of Muslims against President Trump
Former Vice President Joe Biden spoke to Emgage Action, a large Muslim PAC, in July. The PAC had formerly endorsed Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT), but backed Biden once it was apparent that he would be selected as the Democratic presidential nominee.
According to The Washington Times, Biden talked about the importance of the Muslim vote, and stated that American schools should do a more thorough job of educating their students on the tenants of the Islamic faith. Biden claimed that President Trump had encouraged a rise in Islamophobia, and that it was essential to mobilize Muslim voters to elect a Democratic candidate.
"I wish we taught more in our schools about the Islamic faith... It's one of the great confessional faiths." -Joe Biden, Real Clear Politics.
"We all come from the same root here in terms of our fundamental basic beliefs and I just want to thank you for giving the opportunity, for being engaged, for committing to action this November... You're registering and turning out more than one million Muslim voters this November. It matters." -Joe Biden, The Washington Times.
