In Brief:

Beto O’Rourke says he won’t be seeking a Senate seat in the next election.

The Background:

Beto O’Rourke is a former Congressman from Texas, whose extremely liberal views were revelated to the nation during his brief 2020 Democratic presidential campaign. Beto became especially infamous for his proposed gun policies, once saying, “… Hell, yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47. We’re not going to allow it to be used against a fellow American anymore.”

People have been speculating that Beto might jump into the race for Senate, since recently quitting his presidential campaign. But Beto quashed the rumors, telling The Texas Tribune in a text, “Nothings changed on my end. Not running for senate.”

Why It Matters:

The less of Beto the better.

Notable Quotes:

“…[E]ven from those Texans who own AR-15s, they've told me this themselves ― ‘I don't need this. I don't need it to hunt, I don't need it to protect myself. It was fun to use. I like taking it out to the range, but if giving this back, or cutting it to pieces, or selling it to the government helps to keep us safer, then by all means, let's do it.’”
