#ArrestFauci Trends on Twitter

In Brief:

On Sunday afternoon, #ArrestFauci began to trend on Twitter after a groundswell of users criticized him for multiple scandals. Last week, a National Institute of Health (NIH) official confirmed that Fauci’s organization did fund gain-of-function research, contrary to Fauci’s sworn testimony before a Senate Committee. Fauci has also been criticized by people on both sides of the aisle for funding cruel experiments on puppies.

The Background:

Dr. Anthony Fauci has a long history of scandal and bad policy decisions since he became the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in the 1980s.

He made bad predictions about HIV/AIDS in 1983 when he said it could potentially be spread by "routine close contact, as within a family household." He had to retract that statement a year later.

In 2009, he estimated that 1 in 3 Americans would be infected with swine flu. That was almost double the actual number.

And since 2020, he has become a figurehead of draconian COVID-19 policies including vaccine mandates, double-masking, and stay-at-home orders.

Finally, many Americans are becoming agitated with the bureaucrat after his agency essentially admitted he lied to Congress about gain-of-function research and it surfaced that the NIH has been funding cruel experiments on puppies under his watch.

According to documents obtained via FOIA requests, healthy beagles were infected with parasites and then treated with experimental medication. The beagles were later killed. Other dogs were “de-barked” and had their vocal cords removed because it could potentially “reach decibel levels that exceed OSHA allowable limits for people and can lead to hearing loss.”

All this news broke in the past week and led to “#ArrestFauci” trending on Twitter.

Notable Quotes:

"Using taxpayer money to de-bark, drug and kill beagle puppies is both inhumane and a disgrace to this country." - Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC)

“I saw several tweets about this and assumed it was metaphorical. Surely Fauci wasn't literally ‘torturing puppies.’ My assumption was incorrect.” - Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)
