Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) stated that she wants to expand taxpayer funding for programs that combat white supremacy and conspiracy theories. She claimed that funding decreased during the Trump administration, and that there were many “radicalized” people who needed to be deprogrammed.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) stated in a virtual town hall that she supports increasing the funding for government programs that are supposedly designed to combat misinformation, particularly conspiracy theories and white supremacy. According to The Blaze, AOC stated that she learned about these “de-radicalization” programs during her time on the House Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties. AOC said that many Americans needed to be de-radicalized, and that “we need to double, triple, or quadruple, or increase funding for these deradicalization programs en masse.”
AOC’s statement comes days after her comments regarding Trump supporters and the Republican party, claiming that it was full of white supremacy. She stated that Republicans do not care about the rule of law, and that “they lust for power more than they care about democracy.”
“There are people who are radicalized right now. It’s going to take a very long time to de-radicalize these people and a lot of effort.” - Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY)
