A woman from Alabama running for Congress says she wants to form a conservative “squad” to counter that of the infamous progressive female group on the Hill.
“The squad” in Washington, D.C. refers to a group of female, freshman Democratic lawmakers: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib. The women are known for their extremely progressive positions, including the Green New Deal and impeaching the president.
Jessica Taylor, a mother of three and businessowner from Alabama, plans to challenge the “squad” with her own group of conservative women.
In an ad endorsing her campaign for Congress, Taylor proclaimed, “'Like you, I'm tired of arrogant socialists like AOC who've never even run a lemonade stand telling us how we should live in Alabama and that more government is the answer. Even though it might trigger a few liberals, I'll fight to protect life, the Second Amendment, our borders, our military, our families, and President Trump from socialists in the swamp, and I won't apologize for it.”
Why It Matters:
The liberal establishment loves to label conservatives as “old, rich, white men,” but new blood like Taylor can boost the right’s following by providing a more diverse viewpoint. Taylor is a young, female alternative who can challenge the status quo.
“I have zero interest in being a career politician. But conservatives like us need a squad of our own — and I'll build it.”
