In Brief:

A new PAC has formed to challenge liberal school boards across the country. The 1776 Project, led by political consultant and writer Ryan Girdusky, was created to combat the rise of the 1619 Project and critical race theory. The 1776 Project is the first political action committee created to challenge supposedly nonpartisan school boards. They began the process of accepting donations this week, and have a place on their website to “report” classrooms teaching critical race theory.

The Background:

On the surface, most school boards throughout the years have attempted to be non-partisan. However, the popularity of the 1619 Project and introduction of critical race theory has caused partisanship to openly enter the scene.

Grassroots conservative groups have chosen to get involved and push back against the foundations of critical race theory, and specifically the 1619 Project.

Political consultant Ryan Girdusky is behind a new political action committee entitled the 1776 Project. The PAC is supporting conservative school board candidates across the country, and its stated goal is to “bring back patriotism and pride in our American history.” Girdusky plans to focus on elections in North Carolina and Florida before expanding to the rest of the states.

The 1776 Project follows an attempt by Trump to create a 1776 Commission during his last days in office. Trump stated in December, “In recent years, a series of polemics grounded in poor scholarship has vilified our Founders and our founding. Despite the virtues and accomplishments of this Nation, many students are now taught in school to hate their own country, and to believe that the men and women who built it were not heroes, but rather villains.”

Notable Quotes:

“Activists, scholars, and politicians are currently attempting to socially engineer our society and its relation to race, racism, and power. Their political ideology known as Critical Race Theory or Anti-Racism should not be confused with the Civil Rights Movement, Martin Luther King Jr., or any form of tolerance. They believe we need to undo the cornerstones of American society including classical liberalism, legal reasoning, and capitalism in order to promote their version of social Marxism based on race rather than class.” - the 1776 Project PAC
